| | Ballet History Preserved is a unique project of the St. Petersburg Ballet Society, -- a not-for-profit USA organization.
Ballet is an ephemeral art form, so much of it's worthy record disappears, forever, as the curtain comes down, at the end of it's performance.
In that aspect, music is fortunate. A score can be lost or hidden, for centuries; when found or discovered; as the musician reads it, plays it, and performs it, it then can give the original pleasure to the contemporary listener.
Ballet is not as fortunate, in that respect. Even 20th century classics are doomed to disappear, as they get out of the memories of the dancers' muscles
Happily, we have found, that with the application of perceptive attention, ballet treasures can be found in cultural Meccas, - like St. Petersburg, Russia. Master pieces can be saved from oblivion, to give enlightenment and joy to future generations.
The work to be done is to collect, restore, preserve, catalogue, publish, exhibit and present the discovered works of the art of ballet. Here, we call upon you, to support us in accomplishing this worthy endeavor.
We are speaking from experience. We have unwittingly found a great source of precious ballet treasures in St. Petersburg, and in other cities. As there is a lot more, please, help us find and preserve, all we can! | |
